"Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead," c'est la rencontre étincelante entre William Shakespeare et Samuel Beckett sous la plume amusée de Tom Stoppard, un amalgame inattendu entre deux univers théâtraux des plus opposés - le classique et le contemporain - amenés à discuter, sur le mode tragi-comique, de l'absurde splendeur de l'existence humaine.

The USC
The USC (Unil Shakespeare Company) was originally founded 3 years ago.
Indeed, 4 years ago a group of Erasmus students came to the University of Lausanne and staged "A Midsummer Night's Dream". It was lovely, and a great experience, and we played in the actual woods on campus. Exhilarating.
During the following academic year, all the Erasmus had gone back home-but a passion for Shakespeare had been kindled.
What's more, the annual "Shakespeare in Stratford/London trip" organized by the University of Lausanne proved an unextinguishable source of wonder and inspiration. We thence picked a play we had seen on the trip to try our hands at ourselves.
We decided to stage "The Merry Wives of Windsor"-in 3 months mind you. I think it fair to say it was, yet again, a success. We played in the campus bar, for a very "café-théâtre" ambiance.
Now last year we staged "As You Like It" at the Fécule, the Unil Theatre Festival-it was a full house.
This year is something of an experiment-with a smaller cast and a contemporary play. Indeed, fellow students are staging "Macbeth" in the context of the festival. It gave us other ideas, and opportunities to explore a contemporary repertoire-with a smaller cast, but no lesser expectations!
We look forward to meeting you!

About Us
We decided to create this blog in order to able to share and document our experience of staging a play. We hope it'll be... of some use for us as well as for others, fun to do, a good read, a souvenir and a trace for posterity, as well as publicity for our work.
